What to Pack for Punta Cana: Packing List for 2024
Are you looking forward to a vacation in Punta Cana? Or are you heading to this resort for business? In both cases, don’t forget to include some important things to your luggage! Travelers who are going on a trip to Punta Cana should consider such factors as weather conditions, tropical climate and availability of products and medications in this area. Here is what to pack for Punta Cana.
Basic medications
If you take some medications on a regular basis, make sure you bring enough of it with you when traveling to Punta Cana. Yes, this area features drug stores: there are many of them. However, not all medications are available here. Although there may be substitutes or similar drugs, it might take a lot of time until you get some. Besides, if you don’t speak Spanish, it will be kind of a challenge to explain to a pharmacist what you are looking for. Finally, some medications cost much more here than in the USA or Europe. To get them with medical insurance, you will have to go to the doctor… Isn’t it a wrong plan for your stay in Punta Cana? Take measures beforehand: bring all the medications you might need during your stay with you.
Light, airy clothing
The Dominican Republic is a tropical country, thus all the consequences and recommendations regarding clothing. Make sure to avoid synthetic clothes and opt for airy tank tops, shorts, sundresses and other light clothes. Otherwise, you will sweat a lot under the sun and even in a shade – the temperature and the humidity levels are too high here all year round.
Two swim suits
Better even 3… And if you are planning to go to the beach every day, take 4! Why so many? The thing is that due to a high humidity level, it takes clothes too long to get dry even under the hot sun. Besides, in certain hotels and residences, it is prohibited to dry clothes on racks outside the room. It means that you will have your swim suit inside – in such case, it may take more than 24 hours to get dry.
Baby food
If you are travelling with a baby, make sure to have some baby food in your luggage. In Punta Cana supermarkets, there is a limited choice of baby food: by 1-2 local producers and about 2 imported brands. Babies are often allergic to new foods and it is hardly probable you will find in Punta Cana the baby food you use in your country of living. That is why we recommend taking some baby food for your little one.
Beach sandals
You won’t need many shoes in Punta Cana: enjoy walking barefoot along the beach! However, make sure you take some comfortable beach sandals and tennis shoes. Some excursions and activities in Punta Cana require the use of comfortable tennis shoes.
Single dollar bills
Don’t forget to tip airport and hotel luggage porters, waiters and other service providers in Punta Cana.
Waterproof case
Especially if you want to go on adventure trips looking for extreme and drive. Who wants to see their cellphone or money in sand on the beach or in a water puddle during a buggy ride? Multi-purpose resealable bags will also be useful: for money, phone, or snack.
Brimmed hat
Be ready for a hot sun in Punta Cana throughout the year. Protect your head from the sun even when you are in a shade. Take a brimmed hat if you do not like sunglasses.
Sunglasses
For the same reason as in point 8, use sunglasses to protect your eyes from the bright sunlight. If you do not like sunglasses, use a brimmed hat.
Plug adapter
If you are travelling from Europe, take a travel adapter for your devices because power sockets in the Dominican Republic are of the US type. Travelers from the USA do not need a plug adapter.
Good book
If you like reading, make sure to have a good book on you when travelling to Punta Cana. Unfortunately, this area lacks quality bookstores and it is almost impossible to find famous bestsellers in English in Punta Cana. Unfortunately, there is no public library in the area.
Power bank
A small portable power bank is always a useful thing during a trip. It is a must-have aboard a plane or during a full-day excursion: you will surely take a lot of pictures and your devices may run low on battery quickly. So, have a power bank not to miss pictures of the best moments of your vacation!
Good mood
The most important thing for your unforgettable vacation in Punta Cana. Enjoy your stay in the tropical paradise!
